Description

Well, it's still a work in progress, but my gold and burgundy Renaissance court gown is finally wearable!!! So had to have some pictures riding in it!

My mare Cody was such a great sport about the whole thing, and the dress matched her red dun coat color perfectly!

Details about this garb:

Bodice: The bodice is made from upholstry fabric from a pattern I drafted myself from a custom corset generater then converted it to a bodice, found here: [link] It's lightly boned with 1/2 inch plastic zipties, since the corset underneath is fully boned with 1/2 inch plastic zip ties. Need to remake the bodice though, as I goofed a little, and it doesn't close completely in the back at my waist, so this bodice has no bead work. It works for now till I get a better bodice made, then I will bead that one.

Overskirt: The overskirt is pretty much my own design and made from 8 yards of upholstry fabric, and pleated using pencil pleating and hand sewn onto the waist band. Some trim, crystals and pearls added down the front, but still need to had some guard fabric along the bottom and more bead work later on. Also need to make a slightly bigger bum roll to hold up the pleats better. Other pics of the overskirt can be found here: [link] [link]

Underskirt: The underskirt is made from McCalls pattern 4090 and has two foreparts, so you can turn it around to change the look of the dress. It's made out of two different upholstry fabrics for the foreparts and the rest of the underskirt is cotton broad cloth. In this pic I'm wearing it with the burgundy diamond pattern forepart, since the bead work is pretty much done on that one. Still need to add a better guard material to the bottom of the forepart to get rid of that awful ribbon I tried to use. Pics of the bead work on the forepart can be seen here: [link]

Chemise: The chemise is an old one, made from cotton broad cloth using Butterick pattern 6196. I have since made a new chemise for now out of off white eyelet material to get buy on till I have time to make a proper partlet for this dress.

Hat: The hat is a small pleated flat cap that I designed myself and played around with till I got something I liked. It's made out of the same upholstry fabric as the gown, and fully beaded. And also has a band of pearls, gold beads, and crystals. The feather piece I put together myself and attached it to a pretty broach that I pinned to the hat. I sewed small hair clips to the underside of the brim of the hat to make sure it stays in place.

Bodice Jewelry: The bodice jewelry I put together myself from a broach, two pretty buttons, and some thread and beads. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Corset: The corset underneath is from a pattern I drafted using the custom corset generator found here: [link] Then redrafted several times to make it fit, then made twice, because by the time I finished the first one, I had lost 30 pounds and it didn't fit anymore, so had to make a second one. The corset is made from cream colored cotton duck and is fully boned with 1/2 inch plastic zip ties. A pic of the first corset made can be found here: [link]

Sleeves: Not done yet, will finish sometime this winter.

Caul: I have a plain one made out of off white eyelet material, but it's not shown in this pic. My hair is up in a showbow for these pics, as Cody and I had just finished with a dressage show that day. Hence the reason for her braids and white tape. I am in the process of making another caul out of the same material and beading it with seed beads and pearls to go with this dress.
