New Pirate Bodice 2

Description

And here's the new pirate bodice with the whole outfit! Including my new cutlass! Yay for swords! Anywho, I'm very happy with this new bodice!!

Details about the outfit:

Bodice: The bodice is made from two layers of black cotton duck. It is boned with 1/2 heavy duty plastic zip ties on both sides of the grommets and at the side seam under the arms. It laces up the front with 20 silver grommets. The pattern for this bodice was custom made for me, but is loosely based off the bodice for Butterick pattern 6196.

Bracers: The bracers are made from two layers of black cotton duck and lace together with grommets. The bracers are boned with thin plastic boning on both sides of the grommets to help them lay flat.

Chemise: The chemise is made out of red cotton broadcloth and is from Butterick pattern 6196.

Skirts: Both skirts are 10 point petal skirts with an elastic waistband. The underskirt is made from red cotton broadcloth, while the overskirt is made from black cotton broadcloth. Both skirts are made from McCalls pattern 4245. The pattern calls for an 8 point petal skirt, but I added extra panels so I could have a fuller skirt, and also have an elastic waistband, rather than the zipper the pattern calls for.

Sash: The sash is made from red peachskin. Didn't use a pattern for this, just a big rectangle.

Bloomers: The bloomers are made from red broadcloth and have black peachskin ties at the knees as well as black and red lace. The bloomers were made from Butterick pattern 6884.

Cloak: (not pictured here) The cloak is made from black moleskin and lined with satin with a silver cloak clasp. I used Simplicity pattern 5794 for the cloak.

Hat: The hat is made from a $10 flat brimmed hat blank from Halloween USA. I pinned the brim of the hat up in the tricorn style with tack pins, then cut the backs off three matching silver buttons and glued them over the tack pins. A red braided trim is glued to the brim of the hat, as well as around it for a hat band. Several black and red ostriach plumes are stuff in the left side of the hat, as well as a couple other black feather decorations I found for it. Since the hat blank was a one size fits all, I had to add a black felt covered by black peachskin hatband to the inside of the hat to make it fit my small head.

Choker: The choker and hair beads were beaded by me. Used waxed linen to string the beads on and several black and red glass beads, as well as various silver pieces.

Purchased Pieces: Purchased pieces for this outfit include standard english riding boots, grommeted leather belt, feathered fan, and pirate cutlass.

This outfit was my first attempt at sewing. I'm VERY proud of how it turned out! And it's one of my favorite outfits and probably the one that gets the most attention at festival!

I love this! Not only is it absolutely beautiful (you sewed this? Kudos!!), but it's one of the only modest pirate gal outfits I've ever seen...especially on DA. It's so refreshing to see a female pirate without also seeing her lingerie!

Gorgeous piece, very well done ^-^
