Description

This is my newly completed pirate garb! I have never sewn anything before. I recently purchased a cheap sewing machine, patterns, and fabric and went to work. I made all parts of this garb myself except for the bodice, which was made by my friend Duchess Lucrezia ( [link]).

The bodice and bracers are made from cotton duck. The bracers lace closed with 10 grommets each and are boned on both sides of the grommets to keep them from bunching. The two petal skirts were originally 8 points skirts on the pattern, but I added two panels to each of them and made them 10 point skirts so I could just make them with an elastic waistband, instead of zipping or lacing. The skirts, chemise, and bloomers are all made out of cotton broadcloth. The red sash is made from peachskin.

The hat was a $10 cheapy from Halloween USA that I pinned up into a tricorn, then added trim, feathers, and cool buttons to dress it up. I love the way it turned out. The choker I also beaded myself, and was finally happy with it after several attempts. I also beaded the strands hanging from my hat, though you can't see them real well in this pic. I also have a black silk scarf tied around my head under the hat that I sewed beads and coins to the ends for noise! The boots are just my dressage tall boots that I show my horses in.

All in all, I'm very happy with how it turned out. I debuted it at our Frankenfeast gathering a couple weeks ago, and it was a hit! I'm looking forward to wearing it off and on this year at the Renaissance Faires, and seeing what kind of trouble this pirate wench can get into! If you would like to see lots more pics of this garb, have a gander here: [link]
