Description

Finally, after two years, this outfit is complete! The bodice was made two years ago! The chemise, bloomers, and underskirt one year ago! And the underskirt was finished this year! LOL! With the exception of some kind of hat or head piece which I have yet to decide on for this since it's not a scottish outfit, this wench garb is finally complete and made it's first trip to faire last weekend at the Mayfaire Renaissance Festival. I'm extremely happy with how this one turned out! Only problem I've found with it so far is that I've lost a bit of weight since the bodice was made, so the bodice it a touch looser than I would like it to be. And I hemmed the underskirt a bit too long to wear with my english riding boots without tripping over it constantly! But thankfully the boots I bought to go with my eventual can can dress have enough of a heel that they worked very well to take up the extra length. And I like the brown boots with this outfit better than the black ones, so it all worked out well!

Overskirt: The overskirt is a four point petal skirt made from gold broadcloth. The pattern I used for this skirt was Simplicity 5582.

Underskirt: The underskirt is made from a burgundy broadcloth. The pattern I used was McCalls 4090, which is actually for going over a hoop skirt, but I shortened the pattern to make it a wench skirt, but still have the hoop skirt diameter to make it nice and full.

Bodice: This bodice was completed two years ago, from a wench bodice pattern that was custom made for me. The outside of this bodice is made from a burgandy and gold jacquard that was a dirt cheap remnant fabric that I just had to have. The inside is made out of burgandy cotton duck, making it very sturdy and supportive, even if it is a touch loose from me losing weight. The bodice has boning on both sides of the grommets as well as boning by the side seams under the arms. For boning I used 1/2 inch cable zip ties, cutting them to the needed length and sanding the edges round for comfort. The bodice laces up the front with 20 gold grommets.

Bloomers: The bloomers are from burgundy cotton broadcloth and I used Butterick pattern 6884, but modified a bit. I lenghtened the legs on the pattern by eight inches and put elastic bands in the legs just below the knees to create a long gathered cuff below the knees, which worked great with my new boots. Decided to try something a little different with the bloomers pattern that I love by adding the longer cuff, since all my bloomers usually end at my knees.

Chemise: The chemise is made from cotton muslin from Simplicity pattern 9966. This is a different chemise pattern than I usually use and I wasn't sure I liked it. The sleeves are very long on my short arms, but if I push them up to my elbows, then the sleeves look very baggy. But the more I wore it, the more I got used to it and the better I liked it.

You are too damn talented girl! Where did you learn to make such cool things? It reminds me of the projects being done by some grad students at my university...
