Elizabethan Tabbed Corset

Elizabethan Tabbed Corset

05-24-08

Well, Elizabethan corset 2.0 is ever so slowly making progress. I've been a bit lazy and I've had some trouble finding time to sew. But the corset is sewn together, the bias tape is sewn on around the edges, and the boning channels are sewn in. Hopefully I'll get the boning cut and in this weekend, so I can get it finished up and get started on my court gown bodice!

Elizabethan corset 2.0 has finally been started! Unfortunately, after losing 25 lbs, corset 1.0 just doesn't fit anymore. But thankfully, I'm at a point where I shouldn't lose too much more weight, and if I do, there's not much left to lose in the corset area, so I shouldn't have to worry about corset 2.0 not fitting when I get done with it......I hope. So corset 2.0 is under way! It's ready to have the boning channels sewn in, which will hopefully get done tomorrow night. With any luck corset 2.0 will be done by this weekend. Then, I can finally get the bodice started for my burgundy and gold court gown! Yay! With any luck, I will FINALLY get to go court to faire this year!

Well, it's looking more and more like I'm going to have to make a new corset for my court gowns. I've just lost so much weight since I started it, that it's just feeling way too loose. Having lost nearly 20 pounds since this corset was started makes a huge different. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I've lost the weight and I feel so much better, but at the same time it's frustrating to have my corset loose and to be nearly swimming in all of my bodices. Thankfully, even if I do continue to lose weight, there's really not much more I can lose in the top half, so if I start a new corset now, it should still fit right when I get it done. Guess we'll see what happens.

Well, the corset is finally finished. I've had everything done except the grommets for a while now, but finally put the grommets in today. Went to the hardware store looking for grommets, but they were all too big, so ended up using the ones from the fabric store instead, but oh well, they work. Tried it on and was so happy to see that it fit, since I've lost 14 pounds since starting this darn corset! It's a touch bit loose in the waist, but I can live with that for now and make myself a new one this winter. Need to get it washed to get rid of the blue marker on it. Once I get that done, I'll get some pictures of the finished corset. But for now here's a pic of it in my scraps section before the grommets went in!

Well, had to run to the hardware store today and pick up more zip ties to use for boning since I ran out. The Lowes done here doesn't carry the three foot or five foot ones, just little two foot half inch cables, which makes me mad and I didn't feel like running to Home Depot. Next time I'll just pick them up at Home Depot while I'm up at the farm, because I know they have them there. I have much less wasted boning when I use the long ties than using these short ones.

Finally making more progress on the corset!! The cotton duck has been cut out and the two sides have been sewn together. I've sewn the boning channels into the fabric and have added the bias tape around the side and bottom edge. Not too happy with how the bias tape lays around the tops of the tabs, but oh well. Doesn't look the best, but it's underwear, so who cares. Maybe next time I can work out a way to make it look better, but bias tape just didn't like those tight turns. Now it's time to haul out the five foot long 1/2 inch cable ties and get to work cutting out all the boning for this thing!!! Here's a pic of the corset so far:

Wow, has it really been two months since I did much with this corset! I really need to get myself in gear! Did get the pattern redrafted and a new mockup made for this corset. Finally. The new mockup seems to fit much better, so looks like I'm ready to start getting the actual corset cut out! Here's a quick pick of the mockup:

Made some progress and had some set backs on the corset today. Cut out the mockup from the pattern I drafted with the generator. Got it all sewn together and checked it for it. While the waist seems to fit great, the bust is lacking for touching by about 2 inches no matter how hard we pulled on it! Had to redraft the pattern a bit. Haven't cut out another mockup yet. Probably next weekend.

And so I finally started my elizabethan corset today to use with my court gowns! Looking forward to getting it done, so that I can move on to making my court bodices!!

All I have done so far is getting my pattern drafted, but it's a start. I used the custom corset generator on the following page: [link]

I know my friend :iconladyrose04: has had good luck with the pattern in the past, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for myself!

You can see a pic of the drafted pattern here: [link]

Looking forward to getting a mock up done soon!!
